A smirk can kill a new idea, a sneer can crush a heart, but a backward snub is buns.

Renata's ribald, racy repartee ranked right alongside rollicking Rupert's risque rogueries.

Eccentric Jehovah's Witnesses
by snowbird inso as not to hijack logcon's thread about crazy things jw's have said to householders, i'd like to start one about just plain old odd jw's.. for example, i knew this dear, dear senior brother who would carry a small bag of peanuts in one pocket of his suit coat and a small plastic bag of brown sugar in the other.. during that time, we would stay out all day long because the territory was extensive.. can't you just picture that precious soul alternately tossing a few peanuts/crumbs of sugar into his mouth as he schlepped from house to trailer, from trailer to house?.
the householders would usually offer us water, lemonade, kool-aid, or soda pops, so no problem with finding something to quench our thirsts.. those were the days!.

Hi Syl:
Maybe not eccentric but a CO's dress code rules for sisters: Must wear hose but not knee-high boots. I was counseled on wearing a corduroy jacket. Perhaps this is more the arena of wacky rules.

ruthann awoke to the soft pad, pad padding of snowflakes falling en masse, gauzily observable, outside her curtainless bedroom window.

Thank you, Syl! I guess you knew where to look!

In the OP I reread what had been the stated inspiration [Six Feet Under] for this tale. Ironic that I should begin watching the series anew last night, at which time, by coincidence, I recalled having written this story. I absolutely could not find the thread's location in my topics started box. Nor did I recall what had been its prompting -- SFU.

YOUR DAILY JOURNAL
by compound complex indear friends,.
much of what we do on a daily basis is routine and of no particular, earth-shaking importance.
however, after reviewing letters of family going back to wwii, it is fascinating to read what dad was doing on board the aircraft carrier in the pacific on any old day, what mom was cooking on her ever-steaming range, how i was dealing with the roller coaster of emotion at bethel [mom saved all my letters], how nana wrote that she would not study with the witnesses [per my request] but 'here are some mittens i knitted for you when you canvass new york with your magazines.

A sad day's start, saying goodbye to a dear childhood friend.
We will grow old -- die -- in this system of things . . .
You can say I love you over the phone, but cannot give that all-important hug. . . .

This Tired, Lonely Man
by compound complex inthis tired, lonely man has been snared, but i protest little .
she holds me tenderly in her tightening but welcome thrall.
i cave willingly -- oh, so willingly -- to her amatory attentions.

Move I forward, of plodding, deliberate step;
yet no further have I traveled that dusty road
that leads to the end of all ends, that heaven,
that hell our divines did promise us believers.
